Socials Bellandur – A Fusion of Nature & Design
Architected and designed by Atto Atelier, led by George Attokaran, Socials Bellandur is a striking blend of raw nature and urban structure. To balance the predominant use of metal and glass, the entry portal was envisioned as a natural counterpoint, crafted with lantana, an invasive plant species repurposed for its sustainability, strength, and rustic aesthetic.
Why Lantana?
Lantana is an aggressive invasive species that disrupts native biodiversity. By using it for the facade and entry portal, we transformed an ecological challenge into a design asset, shaping an organic, otherworldly entryway that sets the tone for an immersive experience.
Exploring Coconut Leaves for the First Time
For the DJ/stage backdrop, we experimented with woven coconut leaves, a first for us. Over 50 women artisans worked overnight, weaving more than 120 coconut leaves into intricate patterns. To break the monotony of texture, these were interlaced with lantana, creating a dynamic interplay of natural elements.
Adding to the spectacle, strategic lighting within the woven layers created dramatic highlights that complemented the laser projections on the inner dome. This fusion of organic materials and high-tech visuals transformed Socials Bellandur into a celebration of craftsmanship and innovation.
